Leucaena is a fast growing tree that can be grown in poor, degraded soil and with its nitrogen fixing properties, Leucaena returns nutrients to soil at a rate of 91kg. per acre per year. In addition, 1 acre of Leucaena energy farm reduces carbon emissions (CO2) by 16.41 tons per year. By generating heat, steam and electricity with biomass fuel, the emission of Sulphur oxides and Nitrogen oxides are lower compared to energy produced using coal. In terms of economic and social benefits, ThaiBiomass will generate higher income for Leucaena farmers compared to other cash crop.
